Lung Disease Tests And Diagnosis

Tests and diagnostic procedures are needed to confirm if one has lung disease and also to determine the severity of the disorder. This is required in order for doctors to plan the appropriate steps and treatment.

Lung x-ray

• Complete physical examination – the initial signs can be manifested by a person with lung disease such as bluish skin colour. Thus, a patient’s weight and overall appearance is meticulously noted by the physician.
• Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) – This test is better at detecting the general type and severity of lung disorder than defining the specific cause of problems.
• Arterial Blood Gas Analysis (AGB) – This test determines how well the lungs are getting the oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out of the blood, respectively.
• Chest Imaging – chest x-rays a clear outline of the heart and lungs which can help doctors determine abnormalities.
• Thoracentesis – this test is performed to obtain a fluid sample for diagnostic testing.
• Bronchoscopy – is a direct examination of the larynx using the bronchoscope.
• Thorascocopy – using a thorascocope, the doctor is able to have visuals of the lung surfaces and pleural spaces.
